Engine Capacity:
3000

Manual

This is one of the 15 3 litre RSRs created for the debut of the International Race of Champions in 1973. Now fully restored with matching numbers this is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

We have a massive file on the car, there is about 3kg of paperwork in 5 files covering the car's whole history from new, even down to documentation from Porsche regarding the torque settings for the bolts on the car. There is also a copy of John Starkey's book "Porsche 911 R-RS-RSR, Production and Racing History, Individual Chassis Record RSR 2.8/3.0 & RS 3.0" which on page 134 details the car's history.

Then prepared by Franz Blam Racing in Atlanta to 1974 RSR specification. This is the car owned by Bill Webbe of Applejack Racing, Lake Zurich, Illinois and shared with Hurley Haywood.

Amongst the other extensive documentation I have also found a letter dater April 18th 1988 from James Hadley to Don Orosco detailing the restoration the car benefited from:

"My particular car is the "lime green penalty box" referred to in the Road and Track article. It was a back up practice car at Riverside that was used in the second and third Riverside races with Mark Donahue and George Follmer, respectively, driving. These two drivers finished first and second overall in the 1974 IROC series.

The car was subsequently purchased by Bill Webbe of Applejack Racing where it was campaigned by Hurley Haywood when he was not codriving with Peter Gregg. Hurley and Peter Gregg co-drove this car in Mexico where the car was leading when it retired due to a bearing problem. The car finished first overall in both the IMSA (Daytona) and SCCA TransAM (Limerock) races. The car was sold after the 1974 season to Roberto and Miguel Quintinella in Mexico, then returned to the states in 1979 and campaigned by Doug Lutz.

Restoration efforts have taken more then four years, much of which was devoted to locating original parts to restore the car to its IROC configuration as the years of racing had taken their toll in terms of modifications.

The chassis has been restored from the ground up with original steel RSR 9" and 11" flares, dry sump relocated to the rear tank as original, fuel cell removed and RSR plastic gas tank installed etc. The car has been totally replumbed and rewired, the drivetrain has been rebuilt (engine has new pistons and cylinders etc, transmission has new 80% limited slip diff etc). Fortunately I was able to locate, and the car has installed, its original engine no 6840027 per the MSO."

I have recently been contacted by Bill Webbe confirming that this is his old car.

A very rare opportunity to own a piece of Porsche Motorsport history this car is even road registered allowing you to enter classic tours or race the car in historic classes.
